California Bungalow in Pennsylvania -
Located in Montgomery County, this
garden was part of the renovation of
a mid-century modern architecture
ranch house and features accessible
walks and custom wall work.

A new entrance garden was designed to reflect the architecture of the home through the use of dry set flagstone walks with tight joints. These accessible walks meander around large tree roots to provide handicap ramps to the front door and lower area of the house. Unique 4” thick bluestone benches with bevel cuts to reflect the angles of the home act as open walls adding form to the garden. Walls flanking the steps were built with water worn river stone which provides a softening balance to the rest of the straight lined hardscape. A simple plant palette of perennials with different texture and heights in large drifts creates a relaxed and elegant garden around a large existing Japanese Maple.
